How I used a Large Hanging Letter Board as Classroom Decor

Hi again!!!

If you followed along with my most recent makeover, you know that I got the chance to transform a Teachers’ Lounge into a coffee shop. It was SUPER challening, but it was SO much fun and SO rewarding.

The teachers of Williams Intermediate School (and teachers everywhere) deserve a place to call their own. A place where they can come together and collaborate, where they can take a seat and refuel, where they can relax and reset. So, when I got the call, I just KNEW that a coffee shop would be the perfect fit!

I LOVED the way that this teacher’s lounge turned out. So many parts of the room will stick with me forever. My team and I laid a beautiful tile and wood floor, painted the walls a crisp and clean white, and updated the cabinets and counter tops. We created a zen zone by painting a black statement wall, fit with a mantle full of books, yoga mats and cozy cushions for lounging.

One of my favorite pieces in the room is the wall-hanging letterboard from Spotted Owl Avenue on Etsy!  Holly donated a hanging letter-board that completed the space. With three wooden shelves and high-quality black board letters, this was a knockout element of the room. I loved it so much that I plan to order one for my house!

There are tons of ways to use a hanging letter board in your classroom, like: motivational quotes, standards, due dates, star student quotes, and so much more!

Of course, it needed a saying fit for a teacher’s lounge/coffee shop, so I put:

May your coffee be strong
& your students be calm!
